One to Watch. Is it the One to Read?
When I first starting reading One To Watch by Kate Styman-London, I was immediately teleported to my couch. It was like I was curled up in a blanket getting an exclusive, behind the scenes look at The Bachelorette. Because that’s how reading this book was. Okay, so I don’t actually watch the Bachelorette. Or any dating shows for that matter. Well, except for Love is Blind. But does that really count? It was quarantine season and I already finished Tiger King. So my options were limited. Anyway, my point is, I’ve seen enough spoilers and commercials for “rose ceremonies” to know that my vision was accurate. And I sure as heck, wasn’t disappointed.

So who is the One to Watch?
Bea Schumacher. A popular fashion blogger turned diversity advocate overnight. When a popular reality show, Main Squeeze, has its season premiere and reveals yet another picture-perfect cast, Bea & her recently broken heart go on a Twitter rampage. Taking her anger out on the show and their misconstrued image of what women should look like and how the show is the definition of the un-diverse.
“She Addressed the show’s ‘appalling’ lack of racial diversity…it’s ‘abject’ refusal to include any woman who wears above a size 4”
One To Watch, pg.35
When her Twitter rant goes viral, it causes the show’s ratings to take a downward spiral. The show is now forced to reassess the casting, and Bea gets the opportunity of a lifetime. She gets to be the next Main Squeeze. With her only intention is to be the face of inclusiveness, Bea decides to become the one to watch. But nothing could have possibly prepared her for this. Between the lavish locations and romantic encounters, Is Bea starting to fall in love, or is she being used as a pawn for ratings?
Why should you pick it up?
Stayman-London gives you a character you love, with all her flaws. Bea is the very definition of all the self-doubts and high expectations women are given in society. With the book’s point of view rotating from podcasts, interviews, and Bea’s own conscience you can’t help but become engrossed in the story. And also in Bea’s corner. She keeps you turning the page until next thing you know it’s three in the morning and you’re at the acknowledgments. It was me, I did that. And it was definitely worth the exhaustion that followed. This book made me want to see a Tv show with an actual diverse cast. Now that is a dating show I could get behind. If you’re looking for a great read to end the summer before the “real” picturesque dating shows premiere, One To Watch is the exact book you want need in your life.
Overall Rating: 5 out of 5 stars.

I LOVED this book. It was cute and flirty. I like books that seem to show you the rawness of behind the scenes. Rooting for Bea the whole entire book, glad to say she ended up with the guy I wanted all along 🙂
